L 501 Bible History 1

📘 Course Introduction

✨ Brief

This course is a journey through Old Testament Bible history, from the creation of the world to the borders of the Promised Land.

Through 24 structured lessons, students will follow the story of the Hebrew family in Genesis and the birth of the Hebrew nation in Exodus and Numbers, and see how God worked through real people and real places to carry out His plan of redemption.

The course traces one great thread through all of this history: the promise of the Seed (Genesis 3:15), the promise that led to Jesus Christ.

📖 Full Course Summary

The Old Testament is much more than the law. It is the history of God’s dealings with His creation and the record of His sovereign providence. This course gives students a clear timeline of that history, lesson by lesson, so they can read the Bible with understanding and see God’s purpose from the beginning.

🔹 Why Study Old Testament History

The course begins by answering a simple question: why should Christians study the Old Testament?

  • It is the history of God’s dealings with man and the earth
  • It lays the foundation for everything in the New Testament
  • It shows the providence of God working through the ages
  • It gives a timeline of the whole Bible story

👉 Our study has a purpose, an aim, and clear goals from the very first lesson

🔹 Beginnings: Creation, Fall, and Flood

Genesis is the book of beginnings: of creation, of sin, of redemption, and of covenant.

  • Creation by God’s spoken word
  • The fall of man and the curse
  • The mother promise of Genesis 3:15: the Seed of the woman will crush the serpent’s head
  • Noah, the flood, and a new beginning for the earth

👉 Whenever the devil tried to destroy the woman’s seed, God raised up a man to keep the promise alive

🔹 Abraham: The Man of Faith

The course follows Abraham step by step through the 16 stations of his journey:

  • His call from Ur of the Chaldees and Haran
  • The twofold promise: a great nation with a land, and a Seed to bless all nations
  • Egypt, Lot, Melchizedek, and the covenant
  • The birth of Isaac and the test of faith

👉 Abraham left a comfortable city to live in tents, trusting the promise of God

🔹 Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph

The promise is passed down through the patriarchs:

  • Isaac, the quiet man of faith
  • Jacob, the supplanter who became Israel
  • Joseph: the princely son, the patient sufferer, and the provident sovereign
  • Israel brought down to Egypt and preserved in Goshen

Students also learn how Genesis is divided by its “accounts” or “generations” to follow the main character in each period.

👉 God molds His people through trials until they become what they ought to be

🔹 Moses and the Exodus

In Exodus, the family becomes a nation:

  • The oppression of Israel in Egypt
  • The call of Moses at the burning bush
  • The plagues, the Passover, and the crossing of the Red Sea
  • Manna, quail, and water from the rock in the wilderness

👉 “Trust Me. I am the Lord who provides for you.”

🔹 Wilderness and the Edge of the Promised Land

The course closes with Israel on the borders of Canaan:

  • The report of the twelve spies and the faith of Joshua and Caleb
  • Forty years of wandering because of unbelief
  • The death of Moses
  • The conquest east of the Jordan

👉 Faith is being sure of what we do not see: unbelief kept a whole generation out of the land

🔹 Key Principle of the Course

👉 God always keeps His promise

Promise → given to the fathers
Providence → protects the Seed
Fulfillment → comes in Christ

🔹 What You Will Learn

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Know the timeline of Old Testament history from Creation to the conquest east of the Jordan
  • Understand the promise of the Seed and how it runs through the Bible
  • Follow the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses
  • Know the key places and journeys on the map of Bible lands
  • See the providence of God in history and in their own lives

🔹 Course Outcome

This course is designed to move students from:

Scattered stories → one connected history
Reading the Old Testament → understanding it
Knowing the events → seeing God’s purpose
Doubt → trust in the God who keeps His word

It equips believers to:

  • Read Genesis, Exodus, and Numbers with understanding
  • Teach Old Testament history to others
  • Trace the promise of Christ from the beginning
  • Walk by faith like the fathers of Israel
