📘 Course Introduction

✨ Brief

This course explores Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians, a letter written to a gifted but deeply troubled church in one of the most corrupt cities of the ancient world.

Through 22 structured lessons, students will see how the gospel of Christ crucified answers division, pride, immorality, disputes over freedom, disorder in worship, and doubts about the resurrection.

The course moves from a divided church to a united body—teaching believers how to live as God’s holy people in a world that does not know Him.

📖 Full Course Summary

First Corinthians is one of the most practical books in the New Testament. Paul answers real problems in a real congregation, and every answer points back to Christ, the cross, and love. This course provides a structured, chapter-by-chapter journey through the letter, helping believers apply its teaching to the church today.

🔹 Background of the Letter (Foundation)

The course begins in Acts 18, where Paul first preached in Corinth (about AD 50–51):

  • A wealthy, proud, and immoral port city
  • A young church planted through Christ and Him crucified
  • A congregation with many gifts but many problems

👉 The same gospel that founded the church is the answer to its problems

🔹 God’s Wisdom and a Divided Church (Chapters 1–4)

Paul confronts the party spirit (“I am of Paul,” “I am of Apollos”):

  • The message of the cross is foolishness to the world but the power of God
  • True wisdom is revealed by the Spirit, not discovered by human philosophy
  • Preachers are only servants and stewards—God gives the growth
  • Stewards are required to be faithful

👉 Glory belongs to Christ alone, not to human leaders

🔹 Purity in the Body of Christ (Chapters 5–6)

A holy God calls for a holy people:

  • Church discipline that aims at repentance and restoration
  • Settling disputes among brothers rather than in pagan courts
  • The body is a temple of the Holy Spirit
  • “You were bought at a price”—flee sexual immorality

👉 An easygoing attitude toward sin is always dangerous

🔹 Marriage and Singleness (Chapter 7)

Paul answers the Corinthians’ questions about marriage:

  • God’s design for marriage is permanent
  • Husbands and wives have mutual responsibilities
  • Singleness can be a gift for undivided devotion to the Lord

👉 In every state of life, serve the Lord faithfully

🔹 Christian Freedom and Love (Chapters 8–10)

The question of meat offered to idols teaches lasting principles:

  • Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up
  • Paul gave up his own rights to win as many as possible
  • Israel’s history warns us to flee idolatry
  • No one can share both the Lord’s table and the table of demons
  • God always provides a way of escape from temptation

👉 Do everything for the glory of God

🔹 Order in Worship (Chapters 11–14)

Paul corrects disorder in the assembly:

  • Headship and proper conduct in worship
  • The Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Christ’s death until He comes
  • Spiritual gifts given for the common good of one body
  • Love, the more excellent way that never fails (chapter 13)
  • Everything done decently, in order, and for edification

👉 Gifts are given to build up the church, not to exalt the individual

🔹 The Resurrection (Chapter 15)

The great chapter on the hope of every Christian:

  • Christ died, was buried, and was raised according to the Scriptures
  • If Christ is not raised, our faith is useless
  • The dead will be raised with spiritual, imperishable bodies
  • Christ will reign until death itself is destroyed

👉 “Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”

🔹 Final Instructions (Chapter 16)

Paul closes with practical and personal words:

  • The collection for the poor saints
  • Faithful servants like the household of Stephanas
  • “Stand firm in the faith… do everything in love”

👉 A church shaped by the cross becomes a church devoted to service

🔹 Key Principle of the Course

👉 Christ crucified is the answer to every problem in the church

Pride → divides the body
The cross → humbles the heart
Love → unites the church

🔹 What You Will Learn

  • Understand the background and purpose of 1 Corinthians
  • See how the cross answers division and pride
  • Apply Paul’s teaching on purity, marriage, and freedom
  • Worship in a way that is orderly and edifying
  • Stand firm in the hope of the resurrection

🔹 Course Outcome

This course is designed to move students from:

Division → unity
Pride → humility
Freedom → love

It equips believers to:

  • Keep the church united in Christ
  • Live holy lives in an unholy world
  • Use their gifts to build others up
  • Stand firm and immovable in the work of the Lord
