The Bible was written by about 40 different authors over many centuries and in different locations. It was written in three main languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Although it contains many stories and topics, it has one central message: the story of Jesus Christ and God’s plan to restore humanity’s relationship with Him. History of Christianity 01

The Bible consists of 66 books divided into two main sections:

1. Old Testament

  • Contains 39 books
  • Describes God’s relationship with humanity before Jesus Christ
  • Includes several sections:
    • Law (Pentateuch): Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy
    • History: The story of Israel’s kingdom, captivity, and return
    • Wisdom and Poetry: Books like Psalms and Proverbs that teach wisdom and spiritual reflection
    • Prophets: Messages warning Israel and predicting the coming Messiah

2. New Testament

  • Contains 27 books
  • Focuses on Jesus Christ and the early Christian church
  • Includes:
    • The Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John): The life and teachings of Jesus
    • Acts: The beginning and spread of the Christian church
    • Letters (Epistles): Guidance from apostles to early Christians
    • Revelation: A symbolic message of hope and victory for believers

The Bible is organized into books, chapters, and verses to make it easier to study and locate passages. Understanding this structure helps readers navigate and interpret the text effectively. History of Christianity 01

The overall message of the Bible can be summarized in three ideas:

  1. Someone is coming (Old Testament – prophecy of the Messiah)
  2. Someone has come (The Gospels – Jesus Christ)
  3. Someone will come again (New Testament teachings about Christ’s return) History of Christianity 01

Ultimately, the Bible tells the story of God reaching out to humanity to restore the relationship broken by sin, with Jesus Christ as the central figure of that redemption.
